At any level, improving at your instrument is very difficult, let alone trying to do it by yourself. Having an instructor brings to light important issues in our playing that perhaps we never even thought about. This is why students enrolled in lessons always improve quicker and perform at the top of their musical classes in school. It is an amazing way to get ahead and to learn so much more than what you learn in the classroom!
I currently teach private violin and viola lessons at Moonlight Music Academy in Brea, CA where I work with students ranging from kindergarten to adults. I have also done very similar work at the Irvine Art and Music Center for 4 years as well as Mike’s Music in Ellicott City, MD for 2 years. At all of these institutions, I prepare my students for recitals, communicate with parents the student’s performance in lessons, and ensure that each and every one of my students meet their full potential.
I believe in the frequent practice of technique to not only help us better navigate our instruments, but also to become better musicians. A good technical foundation is at the root of good music making. Scales, arpeggios, etudes, and bow exercises are all important technical principles that I incorporate heavily into my teaching. In addition, learning solo repertoire is an opportunity for us to showcase our strong technical foundation!
